Waiting for Paint to Dry, so let's put the new grill togther

April 24, 2016

Just returned from 3 weeks of traveling to New Orleans and Cuba - I definitely recommend both. Back to the build and the first thing we needed to do was mark all the aluminum panels and then remove them from the frame. We will drill holes for secure mounting and installation later in the build, so they will be stored on the platform out of the way so we don't do any damage.

We also pulled out all the bare metal parts for the front end so we could paint them. After some research, looking at past parts we powder coated and also used POR-15, we decided to spray them with silver POR-15 that will result in a few dollars worth of savings and a nice contrast to the black frame.

Getting ready to paint, scrubbed with metal prep and then sprayed the first coat, now need to wait at least 6 hours before a second coat.

So while we wait, we just got a new ceramic smoker grill, like the green egg, from Snap-On tools. I don't know how many tools you need to purchase to get a free grill, but in Cuba they would say mucho grande! So Jake and I started to tackle assembling the new grill. Can't wait to smoke a pork butt and maybe some brisket - should make the build more enjoyable.

Incoming

Delivery Day!

Our kit was ready for pick up back on March 19, it was picked up by the transport company on March 24 along with 9 other kits, and we were the second to last to be delivered. It arrived about 1:30 pm and we had it unloaded - 31 boxes, the frame body and many loose body panels like fenders and running boards by 3:00 pm.

After a quick lunch, we started to tackle the job of getting the body onto the platform we built for storage and started the inventory.

Our system was to open each box, remove the packing paper (which filled up a dumpster) take out all the parts and bags of fasteners, check off the box inventory sheets as we put the parts back into the box. We counted every bolt, nut, and washer and then we taped a copy of the inventory to the box and placed it on the shelf. Along the way, we found 7 missing parts
(we also have 8 on our backorder list) and got all the boxes on the shelves or the platform where we put fragile items like all the glass as well as the fiberglass body, fenders, doors and hood.

We are ready to start to build, but for the next 3 weeks, we are in New Orleans and Cuba, with our friends from Malaysia, California and Texas a group of 18.
